In many countries on the continent of Asia, women suffer in uncountable ways because they are viewed as second-class citizens—without rights or legal recourse. Upon the death of their husbands, they lose their standing in society and are ultimately forced to beg for their survival. NFJ is dedicated to fulfilling the mandate recorded in James 1:27, “To look after orphans and widows in their distress.” Please help NFJ to care for the widows and make sure they have all the food, support, and clothing necessary.
According to the United Nations, starvation claims the lives of approximately 25,000 people every day. This means that every three and a half seconds, someone dies of hunger. As servants
of the Bread of Life (John 6:48), we are not only called to nourish people’s spirits, but their bodies as well. James 2:15–16 asks, “If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,’ and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?” For this reason, NFJ distributes food to those in famine- ravished areas throughout Africa and Asia. For just $25, 15 souls can eat nutritious meals and hear the gospel of salvation.
If you have children, most likely they have more clothes and toys than they know what to do with— and there is always something new that catches their attention. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the more than 143 million orphaned or abandoned children in the world. These helpless victims of poverty, abuse, war, and disease don’t dream about toys or owning the most fashionable pair of jeans; rather, each day they wonder about whether or not they’ll have something to eat and somewhere to sleep. Thankfully, God has supplied a way to minister to them. Nations for Jesus (NFJ) is working to establish church-based Hope Centers that will provide shelter, nutritious meals, education, health care, and spiritual development for these forgotten children. Clean water is essential for life, but it is estimated that more than 1.1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water. People living in poverty-stricken villages throughout Asia and Africa must walk miles to collect a single container of water–barely enough for their daily needs. And one person in eight has no other choice than to draw their supply from a source that is contaminated by waste and disease— a situation that causes more death than war, malaria, AIDS, and typhoid combined. A simple water filter ($75) can help protect a family from the deadly, water-borne illnesses of unsafe water sources. And $1,250 will provide a freshwater well that can serve an entire village and can save the lives of countless people.
Illnesses that are easily treated in the United States can become a death sentence to those living far from medical care in places such as Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and Sierra Leone. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the life expectancy of souls living in those nations is just under 40 because of poverty, AIDS, and easily preventable conditions. NFJ is working to provide medical clinics in these areas in order to improve the quality of life in these countries and help reduce premature deaths.
Nations for Jesus distributes native-language Bibles, books, and gospel tracts, so that people around the world may have to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The cost of each Bible is $3.00. What a small investment for great eternal rewards!
In many cases, schools located near large impoverished populations will not admit children unless they are dressed appropriately—with specified attire that promotes cleanliness, decorum, modesty, and self-respect. Unfortunately, this creates an automatic separation between the haves and have-nots, with poor parents unable to afford the costly garments schools require. NFJ realizes that it is important to instill children with a sense of dignity—an understanding that they can overcome the circumstances of their birth and economic status. So NFJ provides school uniforms and shoes to help poor boys and girls realize that God loves them, they can succeed in their education, and that they are no different than other students.
It’s amazing how simply owning farm animals such as water buffalo, cows, goats, or piglets can transform the life of an impoverished family. Such livestock provides milk and/or meat for sustenance and rich manure to fertilize crops. As a family learns to care for and breed their animals successfully, they gain a regular source of food and income, economic independence, and the ability to minister to their neighbors. You give them a self-sustaining resource that multiplies itself many times over.
There are more than 6,000 unreached people groups in the world that have no active witness to the good news of Jesus Christ. The vast majority of these tribes can be found in Africa and Asia, and it can be extremely difficult to reach them because of their distrust of foreigners and traditional missionaries. Because of this, NFJ empowers and sponsors native missionaries to work in these areas of the world. These missionaries are trained to carry the gospel to places we cannot go, and do so in a manner that is effective and meaningful to their countrymen. As Romans 10:14-15 tells us, "How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'"
